I decided to focus on Yellow as our Color of the Month after the results of the 2009 Paint Color Trends post. It’s probably nice to see the pics during the winter, too. So, without further ado:
I love South Beach’s Villa Paradiso Hotel. I’ve never stayed there but while strolling down Collins Avenue you can’t help but be drawn inside. On the left, a pic of their sunny courtyard. On the right, designer Meg Braff used a Clarence House wallcovering for a foyer wall. It would be like walking into happiness, I imagine.
I’ve had these in my idea file but not sure where they are from. (If you know, let me know so I can credit them.) In the laundry room on the left, I love the elegant use of decorative painting on many surfaces — it’s even in the front cabinetry of the washer and dryer. In the bath on the right, I love the verdigris faucets and the peeling wall finish.
On the right is the striking Yellow & Black guest room of author Marian McEvoy. LOVE the idea of trimming out the accent wall. Oh, and that headboard? Gorj! On the right is a beautiful dining room designed by Bob Biederman. I like his panache!
I’m also plugging in some pics that our company, Garay Artisans, has done. The stripes have appeared in the Painting Stripes post but I thought they would be nice to see again. The free form vine and birds were painted by Juli Simon over our Medallion Gold Lusterstone finish (wish you could really see the wall’s shimmer). We love bringing Juli in on the team when we can.
Just to show you how the color trends are incorporated into various areas of visual design, check out the February 2009 cover of Oprah magazine. See the Mimosa at work? Not a coincidence!
Have a great day!
Yellow….. who woulda thunk it??? It’s such an uplifting color. I wish I had clients that would let me use it in their homes. Everyone is ok with gold (like SW Mannered Gold) in KC… but no yellow. Bummer. Good for you!
Yellow is my favourite color, so I am glad that we will be seeing more of it!
I love that bath with the peeling wall. And that sunny courtyard is soooo inviting… I wish I was in it now!
I don’t see this yellow being any of my present client’s choices either, it needs to have a little more brown or green mixed into it, like Jen said. It is lovely though.
Thank you everyone for the nice comments! I just realized that those three commissions that I featured were each the choice of a different designer. I have a feeling that yellow is not normally a color everyone would think of first but I do know that each client thanked the designer profusely after it was all was said and done (fabrics, faux, flooring, furniture). I’m glad the clients trusted their designer and that I was lucky enough to work with those colorations. :)
