The Obamas and Interior Design

Well, I know we are all looking forward to a Change and the Hope for a brighter future — I certainly am!  Although I will leave all the play-by-play inaugural announcements to the news outlets, I did want to let you know of one aspect of Obama-related news you may not have heard about: the selection of their White House designer.

That’s right folks — it’s hard-hitting journalism at its best here at Fauxology.  I believe that Pulitzer will have my name on it this year.  :)  Well, according to the blogs over at The Wall Street Journal, the Obamas have selected interior designer Michael Smith to help make the White House their home.   Mr. Smith does have two beautiful Rizzoli publications entitled Elements of Style and Houses.

He’s mostly know for “elegant, laid-back design” and “unpretentious interiors”.  Architectural Digest has named him one of the Top 100 Designers in the country.  Patricia Gray also did a very nice post about him a few days ago.  Below are some pics of his work.  I see that he likes using decorative painters — note the mural and subtle color glazes.

I leave you with a quote from — who else would be appropriate? — Martin Luther King: “We must accept finite disappointment but never lose infinite hope.” Here’s to a better tomorrow!

Oh, I can’t wait to read your blog post – I like Mr. Smith’s design sense very much. I did my post the day before Inauguration Day…that’s why it seemed fast, I think. I’ve already checked CNN and the crowds are huge…it’s certainly a historic moment in American history. Happy Inauguration Day to you as well. :)
