IdeaPaint

February 2, 2009 10 Comments by Regina

Hello, Everyone…I hope you had a great weekend! I hung out with the hubster, had some much-needed salon time and went to a fantastic SuperBowl party (even though my Giants weren’t there this year). Well, on to the show!

I wanted to introduce you, if you haven’t been already, to a new paint on the market: IdeaPaint. When rolled on, it transforms that space into a dry erase board. Unlike a chalkboard, you don’t have the dust to contend with while cleaning the surface. With the increase of home offices and the need for innovative ideas for commercial businesses, this is a great product to be aware of. I imagine that it can even be used in creative ways in children’s rooms. Here are some pics:

Here are some touted product attributes: no seams (nice!), environmentally-friendly, works on any smooth surface, doesn’t grime or stain and it works with every brand and color of dry erase markers. It needs to cure for seven (7) days after the one-coat application and they offer a five-year warranty. It comes only in white. The product won NeoCon’s 2008 Gold Award in the Wall Treatments category and Buildings magazine’s Grand Prize for Unique Solutions. See their their review here.

If you’d like to check it out first-hand, please click here to request a free sample – they also have a short video you can see. I’m using mine to see how it works and possibly create a sample board to show my clients. Imagine the possibilities and unique design elements our industry can bring to this product! (On the business side, my brother and I are planning to paint an area of our studio so that we can draw out monthly calendars. We are continually buying those dry-erase calendars and not only are the squares too tiny to write on, they are expensive.) Have a great Monday!

I just requested my sample… I can hardly wait. Josh hates chalk and won’t use our chalk board and gets all weird when I use it. A friend was over last week and she erased our board for us with her forearm. If Josh would have seen that I’m sure he would have run out of the room shivering and disgusted. He’s going to love the IdeaPaint.

this sounds amazing! i bet it works great with kids rooms! i think even teachers should invest in it for their class rooms, instead of just having that small space they could have a whole wall…..this is just such a great idea…much much much better than the chalk board idea…

I ordered my sample. I’ve been waiting for this . You know I’m a HUGE GIANT white erase board freak. I have them hanging everywhere. I have little ones on easels. Thanks so much for the information. Again, regina, YOU ROCK.

I got my sample yesterday. I was hoping it would be the actual paint, but alas it was a tile sample already on a substrate. Bummer. Now I’m on a quest. :)

Noooooooooooo, that sux! Well, that was misleading, no? I thought it was going to be, like, a pint or something. Well, I’ve been dreaming up uses for it so I’ll have to find a local distributor. How does the tile look?

The tile looks great, it works great, but the product is REALLY expensive and on their site the smallest quantity appears to be for 50 sq ft. I just ordered a quart of Rust-Oleum’s Dry Erase Paint which I couldn’t find locally, but found online. It was much more reasonable in price. It would have been cheaper if I didn’t have to pay for shipping… Portland often is the last to ride trend waves. Dammit! :)
