The Peabody Hotel
My brother, Jason, and I were recently called in to bid on a hotel project. The project involves doing something neutral yet wow! for many, many large pillars. We’re looking forward to putting that together (and keep your fingers crossed for us!). In the meantime, we’ve come upon a local hotel, The Peabody Orlando, that recently finished a gorgeous expansion project. There’s a lot of beautiful design to see but here are some areas with very nice finishes.
These beautiful columns are everywhere, including the lobby and restaurant/bar areas. I believe they are Venetian Plaster with a metallic gel overlay. A close-up is below.
Below is another gorgeous Venetian Plaster, this time with a strié technique. It has a beautiful “wood” look to it. The technique was also done on taller columns.
Here is a close-up…just SO pretty…
I think the designer loves Venetian Plaster because there were beautiful red plaster walls everywhere…
…and even though these canvas pieces are not Venetian Plaster, you could simulate the look, no?
I also spied this accent wall with a nice wallcovering that I thought could jumpstart further creativity. I love the linear quality broken up into rectangular sections.
The expansion apparently cost $450 million. I’m just happy there are still projects like this! I’ve tried quite a few avenues to find out who did the work to no avail. If you know, I’d love to credit them. They are beautiful finishes! I hope they proved inspiring…

the “wallcovering” photo almost looks like one of the designer foils…that would be cool applied in a similar fashion!

Wow! Who knew we had that right here? I forget sometimes to look close by for this kind of stuff. Thanks for the reminder, Regina.
