Concrete Decor Show

April 6, 2011 5 Comments by Dana Tucker

The Concrete Decor Show was held in Nashville, TN this year March 15-18, 2011 and I volunteered to go and have a “look see” and report back for our Fauxology readers.  I think it is interesting to point out how social media played a part in my participation at the conference. First, I heard about the conference on Facebook when the Studio Destin posted this:

The Concrete Decor Show was happening in my “hood” in less than a month and the first peep I heard about it was from Facebook. Wasting no time, I signed my husband, Brooks up to go and take a class with Melanie Royals of Royal Design Studio and Modello Designs. He spent two days with Melanie and Katrina Johnson from Skimstone where they installed a custom floor at Rocketown.

Also, through social media I heard about an ICoat Metal Illusions floor installation that was happening at the home of Lynette Wright during the show. Tim Phelps from ICoat entertained the crowd with his exceptional product knowledge and expert troweling skills. He made this product look easy to install with gorgeous results. Lynette has the luckiest car in Nashville. It gets to park on this BEE-YOU-TIFUL floor every day.

I’d also like to point out that Lynette’s garage was spic and span without so much as a can of paint, a roller or bucket of brushes lying around.

Nice work Lynette.

The gathering at Lynette’s house was a virtual “who’s who” of Facebook decorative painters. I was re-united with friends Rachel Sejas and Alma Rollins. I FINALLY got to meet Lynette, Susan Bickford and Kathy Wear, my Nashville girls. In addition, I was thrilled to meet Tim Phelps, Cindy Feddersen, Steve Wallis, Krista Vind and Cindy Everett. It was a great time and I’m glad I snuck over to watch and mingle.

The show’s exhibit hall was filled with industry demos, artists at work and product information.

I was amazed at the sheer number of concrete overlay products on the market.

This is definitely a category to watch.

Virtually every single booth had a display using a Modello.

Hats off to Melanie Royals for creating a product that is revolutionizing an industry. There was also an event hosted at the Nashville Dinner Theatre unveiling a decorative concrete installation that completely transformed the space.

I have put together a video to show you some of the exhibitors and the ICoat demo with Tim Phelps. I also included an interview with Brad Holmes from Elite Crete Systems. I hope it makes you feel like you were there too.

Well, Dana, I wouldn’t say that EVERY booth had a Modello pattern used in it, but we are working on it! :) It was great to see you again and meet your hubster. Thanks, as always, for the lovely mention!

so cool. i wish i had gone. maybe next year. i’m very interested in the concrete overlay products but am a bit overwhelmed by what’s available. and few seem to have trial sizes. anyone know of a good online source for comparisons of the various products?
