Stairway to Heaven

May 5, 2011 6 Comments by Regina

I know I write a blog and all but one of my fave things is to read other blogs.  I love the variation of topics, seeing images that make my heart go all aflutter and of course, reading all the wonderful personalities.  I think if you write a blog and never take the time to visit others, you might as well be someone who only talks and never listens.  Do you agree?  I might have that wrong (goodness knows I’ve been wrong before) but that’s how I feel personally.

Which brings me to the point of our chat today. :) I found such a cool post over on Apartment Therapy that I not only shared in on our Facebook page last night, I actually decided to move today’s scheduled post into next week and instead share this one with you today.  It’s kind of a “What’s Hot Now” so I didn’t want you to miss it in case you didn’t catch it on Facebook.  Anyhoo — you know the trend of Color coming into cabinets? It’s seeping into staircases, too…

I seriously cannot express to you how much I love the Ombre look on these balusters.  I wish I had stairs in my home. I might have to move.

They also featured two great staircases painted by my fellow blogger and friend Carol Leonesio of Painter Girl.  She used Royal Design Studio stencils which inspired their being featured in a beautiful post by Melanie Royals for her blog, Design Amour.  The images have traveled all over the World Wide Web.  Happiness…

The post has more great images of stencils, lettering and lovely colors. (Hot.Pink.Handrail!)

Maybe a client of yours would like one of these ideas?

P.S.  BTW, I’m just throwing this in here.  In case you ever wanted to throw your knowledge around of staircase parts, here’s a handy dandy guide. (Via Artisan Home Solutions)

This is a great post… I love the synchronicity. I am painting a stairway right now! And I agree wholeheartedly about writing AND reading. Did you know there is an all women blogger’s “support group” called the SITS Girls. Members are 8,000 strong and all have blogs. They visit, read and comment on one another’s postings all day long! You should check it out. :)

Thanks for featuring my stairs, Regina! I love the first pic too with the shades of blue balusters. While I love the all white treads and risers in both pics (top and bottom), I would not be able to resist adding a splash of color and/or pattern. I think that must be because we are used to viewing a plain painted surface as our canvas and just can’t leave it alone! ;-) I am often asked how well those yellow and white stairs hold up to day to day traffic. There are actually 2 sets of identical yellow and white stairs in that house (first to second floor and second to third floor). The stairs are well traveled by a young family of 2 adults and 2 small children. Most people remove their shoes in their home, which does help to prolong the life of the paint job. Even those all white stairs will hold up just fine if properly sealed. They clean easily with a water and a microfiber cloth or mop. As with most jobs, it’s all in the prep work and sealing!

As usual, I now have a yet to head to the paint store. Now, just to get some stairs. Hmmm. :)

Oh, Regina. What a great blog to share. Bad enough you suggest books that I immediately add to my “must have” list, but now you’re adding more blogs that I will have to find time to read—if I could just manage with a little less sleep, perhaps…..

What a fun staircase! I have yet to find a client that would be that colorful.

I did have fun recently doing Champagne Mist Lusterstone on the risers, and then Melanie Royals’ Fabric Damask stencil on top.

I agree with Sharon — there aren’t enough hours in the day for keeping up with all these great blogs.
