The Deets: Royal Stencil Crèmes — and a Special Giveaway!
The Deets is a series that takes a product out on the market and provides fast details: What It Is, What It Does and Where to Get It. Today we talk about the newly released Royal Stencil Crèmes. They are the first-ever signature line of stencil paint from Melanie Royals, owner and founder of Royal Design Studio and Modello Designs. Today, we find out all about the introductory series, the Metallic Color Collection. Also, be sure to read on to the end for details on our Giveaway!
What It Is: Inspired by the beauty and opacity of oil-based stencil paints, Melanie Royals sought to find a water-based formula that provided just as much reflective quality as the oil paints, but with a smooth working flow and easier cleanup. The Metallic Color Collection, the introductory series, has ten beautiful colors to choose from. Each features a velvety, gel-based formula that works on all sheens as well as on both smooth and textured surfaces. The colors can be intermixed for even more options.
What It Does: Heavily loaded with color and shimmer, the crèmes are meant to cover opaquely in one coat and yet be versatile enough to produce a translucent effect with less pressure. They blend easily and dry to a durable, hard finish. Along with a comfortable “glide” while stenciling, the crèmes have minimal build-up on the brush so the formula resists seepage underneath the stencil — giving a crisp, clean edge to your work. A great guide, How to Use Royal Stencil Crème Paints, was created to provide complete information.
Where To Get It: The crèmes are available through the Royal Design Studio website. Each pot is a 2 oz. container which, when using the dry brush method, can cover an estimated 10′ x 10′ room. Each pot is $8.95 and the set of 10 is $79.95. Please note that a hand painted color card is available free with every order (make sure you click on that tab!) so that you can have it as a quick resource at anytime.
Extra Tip: In a recent post on Melanie’s Design Amour blog, a fantastic step-by-step DIY Stenciled Jewelry Corkboard was featured. It’s very cool and I love the instant-gratification digital format, too!

I ordered the stencil creme kit as soon as I knew they were available. I love them! I’m using Melanie’s Allover Pattern Ribbon Lattice stencil over a hydrangea blue wall, stenciling with the Antique Silver stencil creme.
If I had to choose three colors (I love them all), it would be Antique Silver, Renaissance Red & Copper kettle.

Melanie gave away samples of the bronze @ Gary Lords open house, I used it on distressed leather…loving it!
I agree with Anna, hard to pick a favorite, although I lean toward the patina green, ant. gold, and pearls.

I’m so glad I saw this. Just added Renaissance Red and Pearl Oyster creams to my order. I am using the Pearl Oyster on a tone on tone allover stencil application in a clients bedroom. She hasn’t decided on the stencil pattern yet but it will be understatedly beautiful and restful. The Renaissance Red is for me – have to do something fun in my bar area which is decorated with my favorite team – STL Cardinals
My 3 fave colors: Bronze Age, Aged Nickel, Smoked Oyster – yum!

These are such gorgeously rich and elegant colors. Since I love metallics, it is hard to choose favorites! I also imagine they work like a dream on many surfaces too. The Bronze Age, Copper Kettle and Patina Green certainly caught my eye as I could see them used together. Thanks Regina for always visually inspiring us!

Yummy…cant wait to try this new product Melanie! Brilliant idea. As far as favorite colors, it is hard to pick but I would have to post my vote for kettle copper, Pearl oyster(silver) and antique gold. I would love to incorporate these in an elaborate mediterranean niche design that I am working on. There are a series of 12 niches and I think this is just the thing that would make them sing and give them that wow factor.!

Love the pearl, patina green and the smoked oyster since they look so different than the standard metallic colors that are out there. Love that they are opague (how tedious is it to have to stencil/apply a metallic 3 times to get coverage), have fantastic coverage and glideability at the same time.

I would have to say may favorite would be bronze for versatility and the two oyster colors because they just look so soft and inviting, although that red looks pretty bold and yummy. I look forward to trying these on my next stencil project.

Can these be used outdoors on a concrete patio? I planning to paint the concrete black then stencil a fleur de lis boarder in a gold (rubbed away to look old) then maybe a glaze over the entire surface to soften it… Would the Royal Stencil Cremes work for this?
Sounds beautiful!

Metallic gold or silver can always be used to enhance any base color. Sometimes, a little hi-lite is all that you need to make a project POP!
Choice number 3 is red. People who want red really LOVE red. . . the bolder the better. Adding a red metallic makes any design unmistakably stand out.
I love the idea of these being able to control opaque or translucent. Knowing Melanie. . . there will be no question about the quality.

Always ready to try a new product of Melanie’s. Going to use them for a non-work project. My son’s getting married in October and my new daughter-in-law-to-be has let me be the head of Creative Wedding central. I”ll be using the creams to accent the molding of 21 vintage candlesticks that I am refinishing. Dream colors: Renaissance red, patina green and antique gold.
