The Deets: Erecta-Rack

February 24, 2012 45 Comments by Regina

The Deets is a series that takes a product out on the market and provides fast details: What It Is, What It Does and Where to Get It. Today we talk about Erecta-Rack™, a company that produces a wonderful racking system for your cabinet, trim and door projects.  Topcoat Review ran a Blog Shootout Competion last summer and yours truly won an Erecta-Rack system.  We have used it successfully for several decorative commissions and we love it!  Let’s find out more — and also be sure to see the details on the beautiful Giveaway!

What It Is: Erecta-Rack is a portable, stackable system that you can easily build to hold cabinetry pieces, trim, doors — and in our case sometimes, mirrors and samples.  It comes in 5-Level and 10-Level systems.  For both, you insert the cross bars into the support blocks and the system is ready to go!  It is easy to disassemble when finished and fits nicely in the custom bag for transport. A 5-Level Erecta-Rack system is approximately 18.5 inches tall and a 10-Level is approximately 36 inches.

The entire system fits in the custom carry bag, which is roughly the size of a golf bag. It makes it easy to transport by yourself and fit in a work vehicle, too.

What It Does: The system holds and protects cabinetry, doors and trim during the finishing phases and is especially useful if working in an ongoing remodel or construction area.  It increases productivity by adding precious space during finishing layers, ensuring that you can get that much more of your project done.  A stable 10-Level system can hold 500 pounds and because it is modular, it can be adjusted to hold long stocks of trim and other pieces.  Their site has a nicely detailed FAQ area.

Where To Get It: The Erecta-Rack system is available for online purchase and internationally.  The system can be purchased in levels of 5 (so, custom to your particular space needs) and ranges from $117.95 to $251.95.

I know Erecta-Rack helps painters tremendously as well as artists and finishers.  Within our company, we’ve used it to hold trim, cabinetry, mirrors and samples.  We can be in tight quarters in projects and it adds great drying space in a compact area.   It can also be used in a studio during a project or workshop and a big plus is that it is portable enough to carry around.  The Blogging Painters blog interviewed the co-owner of the system, Curt Scadden, and he mentions that they are working on several upgrades and accessories that will expand Erecta-Rack to appeal to an even wider range of painting and finishing techniques.  I do have to say that every time I talk to them, they are very interested in the feedback from their users and I truly feel that they use it to enhance the end experience — love that in a company. Now, about that giveaway…

Wow! Erecta-Rack is awesome. This spring I will be refinishing the numerous kitchen cabinets in my mothers older home and we have been pondering where to store the painted and glazed cabinet doors as they dry. Now I know!

But I can also see many other uses for Erecta-Rack: sample boards and canvas frame storage while my hand-made canvases, artworks and sample boards dry, as well as storage for furniture pieces and fabrics as I restore furniture. Best of all, my rambunctious kitty will not be able to step on my work, leaving cute but annoying paw prints and worst of all, fur! Many thanks, Erecta-Rack!

OK… after spending 21/2 wks on a cabinet job, due largely to transferring doors to & from various areas of my small work area, including my dining room table…….. I NEED ERECTA-RACK!!! Brilliant!

Regina, I have been looking at this system for a long time. I have been using bricks and pieces of wood for drying racks for years… It’s like playing jenga with wet pieces! I am doing my kitchen over and my cabinets would love to be drying on the new rack system! My cork floor tiles would dry nicely on them too. I will take pics along the way. I am headed over to their FB and YouTube page now!!!!! Tom

I tried everything to win this! Although I have a drying rack, I would love to have this one so I can take it on-site. I will be painting ceiling tiles at a restaurant soon and can see myself carrying the tote bag to my job.

I would love to have one of these for our cabinet jobs. We have 4 folding tables we use now and they take up way too much space. This is brilliant!!

I can’t like Fauxology on Facebook because I already ‘LOVE” them on facebook. I did, however, tag them on the post on the Ercta-Rack page. Does that get me another entry?

    Must. Have.

Erecta-Rack looks to be amazing and awesome. Soon a lot of projects will be underway … from refinishing my kitchen cabinets, to working on the dozens of art projects already underway at various stages. I sometimes work on a few and rotate and have wondered how to work without creating a big mess in a small space that is normally a hazard to walk through. The canvas boards and stretcher bars, even photography prints will have a safe rack to dry! Or even to just store all the various artworks. No more mess!

    Thank you, Erecta-Rack!

I can definitely see the Erecta-Rack helping us paint trim more efficiently. Currently we just lay everything on dropsheets, which often bunch up and force us to sand out painted trim before it’s installed.

I’d also purchase a second one to store our Venetian Plaster samples at the shop. A sample is no good even with the slightest scuff, scrape, or ding, and in a busy pro painting workshop, it’s tricky to keep those precious samples safely out of the way.

Being a professional painter I can see a vast amount of uses for this rack. Not to mention it would make all my peers jealous ;) But I can see how this would be a vast improvement over using work horses that can only hold 5-7 pieces of trim at a time.

This would be perfect in the shop to free up at least two of our work benches. I would love to be able to test one out :)

Whenever I paint cabinets, I bring the doors home and set them up in my husbands garage for painting and drying. And sometimes thats not even enough room This pushes his truck to the driveway. This would be awesome to have. I may be able to more “on sight” painting or at least not have to take over the entire garage.

I would use my Electra-Rack system for faux finishing my kitchen cabinets, all of my trim, doors, drying samples, all of my cabinet jobs, canvas drying, and for everything else that this would work for. :D I would be Thrilled to own one of these!!! :)

Oh Man would I love this system. I have been painting homes now for over twenty yrs and along the way making makeshift drying rack systems. I employ five full time Painters and the Erecta Rack would make all of our lives better. I am in the midst of fixing up my own 1840′s home and am currently spraying new cabinets that my father in law made in my kitchen and drying them on paint cans. Man I have always wanted this beautiful set and would be so so psyched!!!
    Thanks for the consideration.

We currently use homemade versions of the Erecta Rack but they are not transportable. Love your product! We would use it for a lot of projects, but mainly for cabinet jobs ( our favorite). :)
